Smart Workbook

Excel is where projects exchange data. VECYRA governs the exchange.

Smart Workbooks are structured Excel workbooks generated from the governed model. Edit them in Excel, bring them back, and VECYRA diffs every returned value, validates it against the model, and publishes only what passes — with full provenance on what changed.

The Round-Trip

Five governed steps. No silent edits.

Export

Generate a workbook from the model — structured sheets for the objects you choose, with types and identifiers preserved.

Edit in Excel

Work in the tool every project team already has. Add rows, update values, fill in progress — in Excel, offline, anywhere.

Diff

On return, VECYRA compares the workbook against the current model and shows exactly what would change, cell by cell.

Validate

Every returned value is checked against the model's rules. Findings are explainable — what is wrong, where, and why.

Publish

Only validated changes are published into the model, recorded in the audit trail with the workbook as their source.

In the Product

A workbook that knows what it is.

A Smart Workbook is not a dump. Its sheets map to typed project objects — activities, WBS, BOQ, calendars, relationships — so a returned file can be interpreted, checked, and traced rather than merely parsed.

  • Structured sheets map back to typed objects in the governed model
  • Every change has provenance — the workbook is recorded as the source of each published value
  • Validation on return catches structural and rule violations before they touch the model
  • Works with subcontractors — exchange data without giving up governance
Why it matters

The spreadsheet was never the problem. The leak was.

Teams will always reach for Excel. The failure mode of project controls isn't that people use spreadsheets — it's that spreadsheet edits re-enter the system of record unchecked. Smart Workbooks close that loop.

Before

Export a CSV, email it around, receive three conflicting versions back, re-key the changes, discover the broken formulas at period close.

With Smart Workbooks

One structured workbook out, one workbook back, a reviewed diff, validated values, and a published change set with an audit entry.

What stays true

The governed model remains the system of record. Excel becomes a controlled interface to it — with provenance on everything that comes back.
